Water temps have warmed to upper 40's after the severe cold snap and the fish are sure liking it! The current has been running at about 50,000 most of the week, which has helped to clean the river of some shad kill. It seems all fish are biting.
Bass - It's taking 30 pounds to win 5 fish tournaments with the bulk of those people live scoping offshore structures and "floaters". Besides the "jig head" minnow, some big stringers coming on an Alabama rig and also deep suspending jerk bait. The Jenko 3.5 inch booty shaker swimbait on the side and a 4 inch booty shaker swimbait on the side and a 4 inch booty shaker in the middle has been a catcher on the rig. Look for fish on current seams and along bluffs and contour points.
Crappie - Deep structure is the name of the game. Find stumps or brush in an of the major creek arms from 20 - 30 foot deep and the fish are there. Past few years have been show on good crappie for many with lots of 7 - 8 inch fish. Now there are lots of keeper crappie (9inches) but we are seeing some real big ones as well. The Jenko tickle fry and the fry baby have been the deal! Since they are so deep, the 1/8 Jenko slasher head has been the deal, if the wind allows and the fish are finicky, drop to 1/16. Colors seem to need a little chartreuse for more bites.
Catfish - With the increased current, that bite is on fire on the main river! Even the bass fisherman are saying how many they are catching on bass lures. Mouth of any major creek on the river is good for white cats.
